CHILDREN Chimney Child: A Victorian Story

by Laurie Sheehan

(Key Stage Two historical fiction) (Paperback)

Vic has a miserable life as a chimney sweep; a cruel master, scraped knees and elbows that never heal, filthy working conditions and not enough to eat. Then, one day, some valuable jewels are stolen from a house where Vic is working. Albert, the pampered son of the big house chases Vic but is nearly drowned in the Thames. Vic saves him only to be caught by the police and end up in Newgate Prison. When all seems lost, Albert manages to untangle the mystery of the stolen jewels and Vic is freed and introduced to the famous Dr Barnardo. But there’s a twist in the tale when Vic’s big secret is revealed!
